Reasons to see Jesus is God
Was baby Jesus really God? What a question! How did you answer?
My name is Davy, I’m one of the leaders at Antrim Baptist Church. My answer to the question is a big fat YES. I’m convinced that baby Jesus was really God.
Let me explain why:
Jesus was born miraculously
He had no father. His mother Mary was a virgin when he was conceived. The Bible tells us the power of the Holy Spirit that made it happen (Luke 1:35).
Jesus was given God's name
Not only is Jesus’ birth special, but also his name. The angels tell the shepherds that this baby would be called Saviour and Lord (Luke 2:11). These names belong to God alone.
Jesus claimed to be God
Almost everything Jesus says—if it’s true (and I believe it is)—suggests he is God. For example, he claims he can forgive sin (Luke 5:24). Only God can forgive sin, by making this claim Jesus is claiming to be God.
Jesus acted like God
It’s easy to claim to be God, but it’s not easy to act like God. Jesus healed sick people (Luke 6:17–19), raised dead people (Luke 7:11–17), controlled nature (Luke 8:22–25), and defeated demons (Luke 8:26–39). These are all things only God can do.
Jesus was worshipped by his closest friends
Do you worship your friends? Probably not. But Jesus’ friends, who had lived with him every day for three years, worshipped him (Luke 24:52). Only God should be worshipped—and Jesus’ friends knew this.
I could say a lot more — and if you want to talk about this I would love to talk to you. For these five reasons I’m completely convinced and totally confident that the baby Jesus was God. I would love you to come to the same conclusion, not because of the things I’ve said but because of what the Bible says.
